Alternative dancey rockiness in band form, created by ex-Midtown vocalist Gabe Saporta, tied together with 80s colours and a none-too-serious attitude. It was their 2006 song ‘Bring It (Snakes on a Plane)’, featured on the soundtrack of Snakes on a Plane, that according to their website made Gabe realise writing catchy songs was a way to possibly have slumber parties with Samuel L Jackson. Yes, Troy Sanders looks a bit like a Mastodon (which resembles a wooly mammoth but isn’t one), but that’s not why they named their band after a huge lumbering beast that trolled around the ancient world. They just feel a bit like one as a band apparently. ‘Mastodon’ means ‘Nipple-tooth’ in Greek or Latin or Welsh or something. This also had nothing to do with their decision. They’ve announced a tour. It may come as no surprise to the most die hard of Muse fans, but we believe they are officially the biggest band on the planet at this moment. We'd rubber stamp that statement, but fans of other bands will sure have a word to say.
Tickets for their Wembley Stadium gig (September 11th 2010) went on sale this morning at 9am and promptly sold out in an astonishing 12 minutes. That's right, about 90,000 tickets got nabbed in under twelve minutes flat!!

Make no mistakes about it, Alphabeat make totally addictive, pure pop music. But Alphabeat are more than a guilty pleasure; simply because no one should feel embarrassed or guilty in liking or bopping along to these excitable Danes. Their sound is in your face; lights flashing, beats pumping and girl’s screaming at the top of their lungs. The question is, what’s not to like about it?! NME once described them as the best band from Scandinavia, bar Abba. And with a second album out now, The Spell, the British public are clearly enchanted by their magic.

You wouldn’t recommend it as a name for a band, but melodic US soulsters, Boyz II Men, have done okay for themselves and, after a wee vacation, are back. Made up of Nathan Morris, Wayne Morris and Shaun Stockman, the boyz firmly grabbed the 90s by the romantic dangly bits with hits like ‘I’ll Make Love to You’ and ‘End of the Road’.
